Stories of Being Me


Stories of Being Me is an 11-part web series designed to raise awareness about the lives of everyday lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender people (LGBT) across 7 cities in Asia. The series was produced between 2014 and 2015 by B-Change Group - the organisation from which Be Inclusive was born.

Stories of Being Me was supported by the Being LGBT in Asia Initiative, the Untied Nations Development Program, USAID and with strategic partners the International Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, Oogachaga and media partners Queer Comrades (China).


Episode 1 (Singapore) - The Story of Darius

EPISODE 2 (Manila) - The Story of cha

The story of Cha Roque and her family is a testament of how love and strength can get us through the toughest of life's challenges.

A sense of adventure drives Sophon Shimjinda's life on wheels, and he's determined to live life to the fullest.


Episode 4 (Phnom Penh) - The Story of Menghourng

Ngo Menghourng has overcome disapproval from family and peers to build a career enabling him to give back to the community.

Episode 5 (Beijing) - The Story of iron

LGBT activist Iron tells the story of how moving to the big city brought exciting opportunities to contribute to the community.

Episode 6 (Jakarta) - The Story of Imam

A candid autobiographical perspective from Imam Wahyudi who talks about the diversity of life in Jakarta, his views on faith and urges the LGBT people to celebrate what they have in common with the wider community.


Episode 7 (Kathmandu) - The Story of NILU

Using the visual richness of Kathmandu as her backdrop filmmaker Nilu Sherpa explores the universality of love with the help of some of Nepal's leading women.

Episode 8 (Kuala Lumpur) - The Story of MItch

The story of Mitch and his family is a story of love. While coping with the changes that come with transition, Mitch's family dream is something that we all share: to have a peaceful and loving environment where we can all live, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Episode 9 (HO CHI MINH) - The Story of aki

Aki is making his voice heard when few people understand the meaning of "transmen". This is a story of courage of one transman in Vietnam who won over the acceptance of his family and strives give something back to the community.


Episode 10 (bangkok) - The Story of Apiwat

Apiwat has been active in the fight against HIV in Bangkok for many years. He is open about being gay and HIV-positive and has witnessed the misery that stigma has created, both within the gay community and among those outside. Despite the availability of life-saving treatment, Apiwat is concerned that will not see the end of HIV unless we do more to combat stigma .

Episode 11 (jakarta) - The Story of Vilda

Vilda is a bisexual women living with HIV who had a history of using drugs. Overcoming her own biases, she learned to accept herself fully, and she is now helping others in her own community.
